My dog inhales his dinner in about ten seconds. What here will actually slow him down?
Two things in this collection are built for that. The Slow Feeding Lick Mat spreads wet food, yoghurt or peanut butter across a textured honeycomb surface so each mouthful has to be worked out with the tongue; it comes in a small and a large mat, presses onto tile, glass or the floor with its suction-cup back, and goes in the dishwasher afterwards. The Silicone Collapsible Bowl is also sold in a Slow version alongside the normal one — choose Slow on the product page next to your colour and size, though a couple of the colours come in Normal only. Neither is a cure for every fast eater, but both give a gulper something to slow down for.
For walks and hikes, should I get the water bottle or the collapsible bowl?
It comes down to whether you want to carry the water too. The Portable Dog Water Bottle is bottle and bowl in one: press the button and a trough slides out to drink from, and whatever your dog doesn't finish draws back inside instead of onto the pavement. It seals with a silicone ring and lock key, filters through activated charcoal, and on the + Feeder versions the base unlatches to hold treats. The Silicone Collapsible Bowl is the lighter, cheaper option if you're already bringing water — it folds flat, clips to a leash or backpack, and comes in 350 ml and 1000 ml.
Can the Smart Feeding System cover meals while I'm out all day?
That's what it's designed for. The hopper holds 3.5 litres of dry food and it runs up to four meals a day, each set anywhere between 1 and 20 portions of roughly 5 grams; pick the WIFI Control option if you want to set and change that schedule from your phone. Food drops into a removable 6.5-inch stainless steel bowl, an infrared sensor stops the flow if the bowl backs up, and three D-cell batteries (not included) keep it running through a power cut with your settings intact. It handles dry food only.
How do I work out how much I'm really feeding him?
The Food Scale with LED Display is the tool for that — a digital scale with a detachable scoop that reads in grams, milligrams, cups and ounces, so you can move between what the food bag says and what your vet asked for. Press the unit button to switch measurement and the power button again to return to zero between scoops; holding it for three seconds switches the scale off. The scoop lifts off for washing, and it weighs liquids and dry ingredients just as happily if you cook for him.
